At Chelmsford Drive Early Learning Centre, our curriculum focuses on the values of the Early Years Learning Framework: Belonging, Being and Becoming. Our values are reflected in the practices and outcomes that enhance a child’s development from birth to five years of age. The physical, emotional and social development of young children affects their overall development and the adults they become. We facilitate educational programs that meet a child’s developmental needs. Every child is guided on developing their personal skills. The skills that our curriculum is based on are:
Emotional and Social Development
Our programs nurture trusting relationships with peers, teachers and parents. Our staff do more than just watch over the children. They are trained to encourage engagement and develop emotional skills. When we develop a child’s social skills, we present them with scenarios that allow them to manage their interaction with others.
Caring for Oneself and Others
Our staff understand that giving children responsibilities such as cleaning up after eating gives them ‘real skills’ they can use in life. Our staff also educate children about the value of helping others, such as showing new students where to find certain items in the room. In our learning centre, we introduce behavior that help children socialise with others as they grow.
Cognitive and Language Skills
Our learning centre exposes children to a language-rich environment. Our staff facilitate conversational games to the children and help them broaden their vocabulary by introducing them to new words. Our staff also engage with children in hands-on activities that enable them to ask questions that help them achieve a certain task.
A structured environment does not mean our staff is constantly correcting children. Our staff coach the children consistently and patiently. The structure at our learning centre provides children with a framework of organised learning spaces and schedules that promote socialisation.
Maths and Reading Skills
To prepare children for kindergarten, our staff offer various fun activities that promote maths and reading skills. Maths skills are introduced by counting games that aim to develop a child’s understanding of numbers. Reading skills involve learning the alphabet through a variety of fun activities that associate letters to ideas and items.
